National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS)

The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS) is the mandatory national reporting system that will provide emissions data to underpin the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.  Companies who have used Beyond Neutral® or taken a rigorous approach to estimating their greenhouse emission inventory are in a good position to meets its requirements.  Corporate groups are required to establish their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and if their emissions meet or exceed the following thresholds they are required to report for the 2008/09 financial year.

  • Have operational control of a facility that emits equal to or greater than 25 000 tonnes of CO2e (tCO2e) and/or produces equal to or greater than 100 terajoules (TJ) of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 100 TJ of energy.
  • The corporate group emits equal to or greater than 125 000 tCO2e and/or produces equal to or greater than 500 TJ of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 500 TJ of energy.

Corporate groups meeting the above criteria are required to register by 31 August 2009 and submit their first report by 31 October 2009.

Thresholds for corporate groups will be progressively lowered each year until 2010/11 financial year.

Corporate groups meeting the follow thresholds during the 2009/10 financial year are required to register by 31 August 2010 and submit their first report by 31 October 2010.

  • Have operational control of a facility that emits equal to or greater than 25 000 tCO2e and/or produces equal to or greater than 100 TJ of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 100 TJ of energy.
  • The corporate group emits equal to or greater than 87 500 tCO2e and/or produces equal to or greater than 350 TJ of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 350 TJ of energy.

Corporate groups meeting the follow thresholds during the 2010/11 financial year are required to register by 31 August 2011 and submit their first report by 31 October 2011.

  • Have operational control of a facility that emits equal to or greater than 25 000 tCO2e and/or produces equal to or greater than 100 TJ of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 100 TJ of energy.
  • The corporate group emits equal to or greater than 50 000 tCO2e and/or produces equal to or greater than 200 TJ of energy and/or consumes equal to or greater than 200 TJ of energy.
